Yep, how 'bout it. I'll add that 2009 was a year of challenges, setbacks (hubby working on his 5th pay cut), and humility. Here's to 2010 being a year of endurance, progress, and God given hope.

Yea! I been waiting for you to write again because you always put a brand new perspective on things and usually happens about the same time I've been shot down in one form or another from.....some of my former friends. To make a long story short, I'm now a grown-up but still love being a child. I've learned to let go and it is refreshing to say the least. I'm in strong prayer mode right now for who to not join up with in the coming year. My money is gone and although I love to believe in networking with a lot of organizations, I'm going to have to be selective this year.

I just came back from a wonderful seminar where it cost 5 dollars or two cans of food to be donated to the Rocky Mountain Food Bank. I will give you all the information if you are interested. They will try to do this every six months or at least yearly. There are some great marketing classes in this and if anyone is interested, let me know by emailing me.
coloradopolly@yahoo.com. I can also share that Kelly's conference can't be beat and when God let's me, I'm on my way! She is chock full of support and good ideas. Too bad I live here now, used to be much closer, but I do believe God's timing is always right for his writers.

Happy New Year all and....keep up the good work Kelly, it doesn't go unnoticed. Welcome too to you newer members.

Hugs, Paulette

It sounds as if your year was packed with being thrown under the bus and then backed over by said bus. It's awesome that you have kept your humor(which I LOVE!) and your sense of Lara Croft. Rock on!

Kelly,

You've created a permanent tribute to your father, and the Marine Corps. So real. I know he's as proud of you and your daughter, as you are of him. He's safe now, and grateful to see the legacy he's left behind.

South Korea is a free thriving country today, thanks to the sacrifices young men like your father made on those cold days 60 years ago.

You've helped us remember that freedom isn't free.

Definitely alot to be proud of. I love the contrast: beautiful daughter in flowing prom dress--multi-talented daughter in fatigues holding M-16. You can see the confidence and fire in her eyes that say, "I can do anything I want to!"

With four lil' ones at home, the oldest a mere 8yrs. old...I often think about what would make me proud.

We are a military family, my husband, his father, my brother, my cousin...well you get the idea. Sometimes its hard for me to see passed the "now" of Barbies and Barney.

God bless her, God bless you for making her. "Proud"..."pride" nahh...the feeling that swells in your heart is far greater than that! You go Momma...standing ovation! Job well done.

Thank her on behalf of my family. She will be included in the prayer at our Thanksgiving day table, as will all of the soldiers that sacrifice so much for our way of life.

Have wonderful Thanksgiving...God's blessings, ALWAYS! :)
(now I'm going to go blow my nose and play Barbies)

WOW I must admit to tears welling up in my eyes as a parent. Or was that irritation from sawdust and cutting wood? You seem like an amazing mom and she seems like an amazing young woman. You must be so proud of her. I am glad she made it through safely. God bless America. I hope you have a great thanksgiving. Now THAT is something to be thankful for.

I'm going to be honest and admit that I haven't read a word. This is my one off day to do a gazillion things. But the topic caught my eye. Here's my personal philosophy:

Until getting pregnant can have the same negative effect on males in terms of ruining their lives and futures and plans and dreams, I'm for limited abortion. While the egg and sperm are a zygote (a mass of dividing cells) or an embryo (a mass where you can't tell whether it's a fish, a bird, a horse, or a human as all embryos look alike at this stage of the pregnancy)...I believe there is nothing wrong with abortion. Of course, this is a very small window of time. When it turns into a fetus and now looks human....nope, too late. It is a human baby then and "ya had plenty of time to know you were pregnant and didn't want to have a baby"....now it's no longer your choice....the baby counts as a human because it now has human characteristics. The Bible says the soul enters the body when the first breath is taken. But I believe in saving a human life before it has a soul but when it could be "anything"...in its embryo form....I am comfortable in aborting it.

Kelly, Thank you for allowing us to read about the amazing marine and servant for the Lord AND for America, that was your father, Sal. What a valiant, valiant man. I used to tell my high school students, that of all the things that they will have to take notes on and study for in my US History class, I will ask them to remember one thing only, above all else: that thousands have fought and died for this country, and that they NEVER forget it and to always praise God and give thanks to our military. Sal is a testimony of what this country SHOULD still be fighting for: FREEDOM and love of GOD AND COUNTRY.

Thanks for all the support.

One thing I didn't put in the story that was funny: That newspaper photo made my dad semi-famous. Trouble was, they listed my auntie as my dad's wife instead of his sister-in-law. [You can still read the caption under the picture.]

Finally home, he was lookin' to have some fun with the gals. His cheeks were crimson from all the ladies who’d seen his picture in the paper, slapped him, and said, "Fresh! Your poor wife!"

The guy couldn't get a break, y'know? Except in the nose. The one fight he almost lost, his opponent made the mistake of breakin' Dad's nose. He was furious, came back from the brink of unconsciousness, and beat the guy to a pulp! [Hmm. I wonder where I got my gumption???]

Next week, we'll take a more fun approach with the piece on my I Ain't Quittin' Child.

Until then, miss me.

<p>I'm overwhelmed by your touching responses. I don't write serious stuff [Gasp!], so I didn't know how it would go over, but when I knew my dad was going to heaven, I asked him for the "interview."<br />
<p>After all those years, it was still hard for him. Next week, we'll take a more fun approach with the piece on my I Ain't Quittin' Child.<br />
<p>To all of you with family in the military or veterans, my family thanks your family for your loved one’s service.<br />
<p>Also, please refrain from diverting from the topic. This is no longer a political blog. If you wanna state those kinds of opinions, you need to do it on your own blogs.<br />
<p>[However, I will be starting a political blog next year: www.thecrazedconservative.com, and premiering my first parody via U-Tube: "Ode to Obama." No time right now, though.<br />
<p>Love to all,<br />

This is so powerful. You've blessed, enlightened, and touched me (and many others, I'm sure) by sharing his story. Your dad is surely proud of you as he rests in the Lord's arms.

Oh, how blessed we are to have such heroes as fathers. My dad was one of three men who made it out of his platoon in the Korean War alive. One of three. I sincerely believe it was because God's hand rested on his head, as it did with your father's.

Dear Kelly,
This was an absolutely wonderful story. This is a microcosm of Americana. I enjoyed this so much. I'm sorry you lost your Dad. me too, and he was a hero too. I still love and miss mine, even 14 years later. Thanks for sharing your Dad and his story with us.

Gripping! Bless those who lovingly record memories of our heroes for the rest of us to read. Bless Sal, my husgand, and everyone who has answered the call to serve this great country. My Dad was in England during World War II. I treasure the things I learned from him in the last years of his life, and have written his story down for my children. Until I did this, I knew little about what he did or experienced. I now thiink about things like - not hearing your loved ones voice for years - open ended deployment (for the duration of the war and six months beyond) - and leaving a tiny baby behind, coming home to find a little girl who kissed your photograph for two years but sees you as a stranger. I recently visited the National Cemetary in Hawaii and have no words to describe the feelings I had standing in that beautiful, peaceful place among so many heroes. I'm anxious to read the next installment of Sal's story. Becky

<p>Kelly, thanks for sharing, I know it must be tough. I'm proud of your Dad and the Lord for keeping him too. What a brave man.</p>
<p>This story makes me cry, one for the author, and one for me. It brings back so many memories of my family from generations back to the present. I cry for those who have fought with all their strength to keep us free as they saw the big picture and the need to keep us free. The strange thing is that some of them were not very educated, but felt the call of God on their lives to go and fight for freedoms that sometimes they didn't even understand. </p>
<p>So, I salute you all in my personal way because I don't think there is one true American who hasn't been affected one way or another as they either go or see someone they love go to continue the fight.</p>
<p>Prayers to all of you and thank you Kelly for a beautiful story of love and sacrifice.</p>
<p>Hugs in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,<br />

Kelly,

I enjoyed reading your 'post' a lot. I can relate to what happened to
your father.

I experienced something similar to the Chinese soldier slipping on the
ice. What else could things like that be other than acts of God? A
worn Chinese boot in the case of your father, or in my case a puff of
wind under a wing?

I used to think the latter, now I choose the former :--))

Great stuff Kelly. Thanks for sharing. My only disappointment in reading it is that I reached the end of this installment so quickly. I guess this was of great interest to me for a couple of reasons. One, although it was in peace time (well, there is no such thing anymore but there was not active fighting at the time)I served one tour of duty in Korea toward the end of the Viet Nam war. I could visualize vividly the hills and caves and rivers that I once saw there. Secondly, I have a son who is a sniper in Afghanistan as I write this. It is encouraging to hear of God's safety for your dad as I request safety for my son under similar circumstances. I look forward to the next installment.

I can't wait to read Part II. My dad served in Korea too, in the Navy. He didn't talk much about it, and he's been gone now for over 20 years. Thanks for sharing this post.

Roger that. Gee, thanks. [Did I ever mention I was a writer before I was an agent?] Glad you liked Part I, and hope you stop by to read Part II. I'll send a notice when I post.

After that, my kid's tour in Iraq entitled: My Daugther Wears Army Boots.

K. Out.

Kelly,
I am impressed already. You sound like such a GREAT agent to have on one's side. I hope and pray that I can be one of the lucky ones that can say, "My agent is Kelly Mortimer and she is the best." Yeah I know it sounds corny, but I do wish that.

Love to hear stories like this. "Regular" people going above and beyond to make others happy. :)

This makes you SO not 'regular'.

I can't imagine getting a gun for a romantic present, but that story surely made me laugh. And laughter, when not malicious, is always good. Thanks. :)

Sounds like a fun time. Glad it went well after you finally made it there. :-)

And when you wrote ..."See, told ya I was a regular gal." That's what is so great about you, Kelly.

Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

And you still made it to the conference. Mucho impressive! (I just had to add the pseudo-Spanish.) If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I'd love to meet your husband. He sounds like a great guy.

Kelly,
I would've been totally kaput back at the orange hair stage, and just forget about missing that flight! You are really one tough chick-- Go, girl!
(And, you ARE going to tell us the rest of the story, right? How it went without your shoes, and what you did about your hair?)

Looking forward to more!
Hugs,

I am soooooo looking forward to this conference. I am leaving straight from work on Friday, about 2p.m. Hopefully I will be there by 4p.m.

Our three pages, does it have to be an "overhead" or will paper be fine? (I don't know how to get it into overhead....)

I am so excited! (I said that already, I know!) LOL

Absolutely right, Kelly!
GM lost $1,434.00 for every car it manufactured in 2007 (2008's P&L will be even worse). Pumping more funds into a company that is apparently in business to loose money is pointless. The UAW (with the support of its spineless and inept management) has destroyed the American Auto Industry and forfeited any claim to taxpayers' aid. Let these over-paid nut & bolt-turners flip burgers for minimum wage for a couple years and then invite them back to the bargaining table. Until then let the market run its course. Laisse faire: it's a good thing.

I am not a whooo whooo person, but Kelly, you are right on in so many places. I think you just have to be Ann Coulter's twin except for the hair. Anyway, just a joke. The reason I am writing tonight....it is Jan. 15th, is that my son-in-law works in the oilfields of Wyoming. His rig is the top safety rig in the U.S. so he feels safe for the moment as far as jobs go.

However, late Oct. early Nov. his boss told the crew that things could change a great deal depending on who won the election in Nov. Well, he wasn't allowed to say anything else; left it up to the crew to figure it out. My son-in-law has since lost his car-pool buddy that was with the same company, just on a different rig. His best friend who went to a different company in the summer, was let go as well. That rig was in the Pacific off of southern California. Understand folks, it means that the entire rig shut down. So....right now I guess I would ask for prayers for my son-in-law as he believes it is a day to day job right now. Really scary for an almost forty year old with several children to raise in a blended family.

What a hoot! Great work!!! I finally figured out how to navigate this site...duh. I have very mixed emotions about the bail out and at least two if not three of the foreign car plants that refuse to go union because their companies treat them well without the union, are located here in Alabama. It's provided lots of good jobs and it proves that automobiles can be made and companies can do their people right without a union. They get bonuses each Christmas...more on good years, or none on bad years. The workers agreed to this. They don't get a bonus when sales are down...that's common horse sense! I knew the CEO of the Mercedes plant. His daughter showed her horse with my daughter. Yeah...he was rich compared to us but lived in a normal middle class home. No exorbitant salaries for him. The US car makers should come to Alabama and learn how to make cars efficiently.

Overall average costs at GM, per production hour, are supposedly $73 vs $48 for Toyota. These aren't wages but cost accounting numbers taking all wages and expenses into consideration, and are inflated at GM by their so-called Job Bank, superb medical insurance for workers and retired, and high pensions. Awkward work rules play a part in this, as well.

GM claims its costs will drop to $69 next year, but even so, the $31/hour difference will add hundreds to the cost of each vehicle. A government-backed chapter 11 bankruptcy seems like the best way of saving the company (and Chrysler) because the court can cancel union contracts, allowing all facets of costs to be renegotiated. Hard luck for the employees, of course, but they've lived high on the hog for decades.

Well, I finally caught up after having a crazy computer who still doesn't realize who is the boss. I have enjoyed all your postings.
I wonder what it would be like to make $70 an hour??? I am truly sorry though for those people during this time of the year.

Kelly you are doing a great job. I find your writing very informative and interesting. I have been low key lately as I learn about a little writing job I got. It will be great for my bio. I have gotten over the learning curve of the company and so after four computers failing on me....I can jump in and give my two cents worth. I am disappointed in President's Bush's decision about the bailout. I did see Norma Rae too and it is sad that the Unions have taken over so much. I could actually see both sides of the coin for a brief moment when I saw her story, but this is ridiculous.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you.

Blessings,
Paulette Harris

Oh yeah, I agree. Benefits of the suits ARE outta line. I mean, are you kidding me??? Gazillions of dollars to them, who didn't run the company well enough that they needed a bailout, or BK, or whatever. That's nuts.

Just remember, the US automakers have CAFE Standards and Union Consessions. This makes it hard to compete with Honda, who has less overhead, and can sell their cars for less.

Still, the benfits of the suits are outta line, IMO.

Thakns for commenting!

Been spending all my "free" time building the apartment for my parents to live in, so I just got to this. What a grand way to start my Saturday. I joined Lynn Rush ... ROTFLing. My best friend here in town owns the GM dealership, and while one part of him wants the bail, his inner conservative self says its not the right thing. Hava great weekend.

Thanks for your thoughts, Kelly!

I completely agree with both you and Lynn! For someone in my tax-bracket, I'm amazingly anti-union. Not that I don't want line workers to make good money, but come on! We shouldn't be paying them after they're dead!

My favorite example is Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart always gets a really bad rap because they're not unionized, and oh, the poor employees don't get paid much! Well, my thinking is, if you have no education and no experience and no special skills, you SHOULDN'T be making as much as someone who has put in the time and effort to get those things! Besides, I've known several Wal-Mart employees who will testify to their good treatment.

The beauty of a true capitalistic society is that the more valuable workers get paid more, and the lazy people get paid less, so you earn what you deserve. Obviously we live in a fallen world, and things don't always work out the way they necessarily "should" but that doesn't mean that it's not a generally good system. You work hard, you make more, and you shouldn't have to spend your hard-earned money bailing out the companies who screwed things up.

Thanks for letting me rant! If you're bored, have too much time on your hands, or if you want to hear more of my capitalistic rants, please visit me at my blog: http://avilyjerome.blogspot.com

I heard about the bail out dying in its second round....Now, I'm not nearly as educated in politics/economics as the average person, but my uneducated opinion is: I'm glad it died. I think they should go through what the airlines did. File for bankruptcy and re-organize. LEARN from their mistakes and be better for it.

I heard on the news a while back that the American auto industries are asking for money because they are about to go under, but yet Honda is opening plants and hiring tons of people.......so, what's that tell us? The American auto industries are not doing things right, they need to shape up AND NOW!

Thanks for the post!

Hey Tom,

Why, thank ya! Spent 30 minutes on it--well worth the time, as it's the most fun I've had in a while.

Alrighty then!

The final stanza emerges as the appropriate climatic finish! Kudos Kelly.

Ahh... How I'd love to see the rich and over-priviledged, out-of-touch people have to return to the days of horse, buggy, and wax candles. Aargh!

It would be interesting to see how many politicians would wander to the houses/camps of the previously 'under-priviledged' people (who know how to survive) and beg for food and directions along the adventurer's path into the 'morrow.

Nicely done.

"I will be looking to hear you on a conservative radio or tv soon."

KELLY SAID:
"Believe it or not, I was just pitched by a segment producer to be cast on "The Osbournes." Juuust missed it. I'm too controversial..."
