O-boy!

Hi Guys and Gals,Welcome to my first rant. Feel free to comment. Agree or disagree. I love both. I ate ‘em up in Forensics. Ah, that didn’t come out right. Forensics is what debating is called at the colligiate level. And awaaay we go…In case ya didn’t know, we have a presidential election next month. Here’s my take on one of the candidates.

I bleed red, white, and blue. My dad fought as a Marine in Korea, my daughter in Iraq. McCain in Vietnam. When did Obama defend my country?

Yeah, we’ll get change with Obama. Let’s play, “How much can you afford to lose?” Round one. Ding! Let’s double the capital gains tax. Oh, and why not strip the FICA tax cap off every worker making more than $97,500. But wait, Johnny, there’s more! As an added bonus, let’s increase the dividend tax and let the Bush tax cuts expire. Almost every American family will win the prize–an automatic tax increase.

And while we’re at it, let’s go shopping. My budget is $800. I’d rather go shopping with O-bummer. Somehow, he has a budget of $800 billion. (I think my $800 is in there somewhere….)

Livin’ near San Diego, I feel the impact of illegal aliens, and I ain’t talkin’ about the ones from Mars. Here’s an fresh idea. Why not give ‘em driver’s licenses instead of doing what we’re supposed to do with criminals. Yes, criminals. I-L-L-E-G-A-L-S.

O-beanbrain opposes gun rights. I bet I might get in trouble for enforcin’ what the founding fathers gave me. Beastly! Imagine me, all alone on my land, rattlesnake blockin’ my path. I reach for my sidearm, but come up empty. Why? Because law-abiding citizens who have a 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms won’t have access to guns. But the criminals still will. We have  thousands of gun laws in this country. Why not enforce those instead of taking our liberties away? Fortunately, the ban on guns O-blockhead backed was overturned. (There is a God, and He loves me.) Yep, I’ll “…cling to my guns and my religion.”

And what wonderful friends he has! William Ayers, a leader in the radical terrorist group the Weather Underground. These boys play with matches. Okay, they probably didn’t use matches when they bombed several government buildings, including the Pentagon, killing civilians and police officers. Let’s not forget Louis Farrakhan, Nation of Islam leader who endorses Osama. Shoot, I keep confusing his name. Ever since Ted Kennedy called him that…. (For the record, my guns have killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy’s car.) I’ll just name one more: America-hatin’ Mrs. Obama–excuse me, I meant Rear-end–oops! Rever-end Jeremiah Wright. Un-freakin’ believable. I thought Freddie Kruger was scary.

As a writer, I’m horrified his VP choice is a plagiarist. Say, if I copy Debbie Macomber, do ya think I could be the VP candidate? Look at the facts, not the elite Harvard mouth. Just because O-babbler can read a teleprompter, doesn’t qualify him to lead a nation. He has zero experience, and is the most liberal candidate ever on a presidential ticket. I never thought I’d see the day I’d prefer Hillary Clinton to anyone. Sheesh! What’s the world comin’ to?

But isn’t America a wonderful country? If I said those things in a different part of the world, I could be dead. We have our freedoms because we fight for them, and I’ll continue to. From my cold, dead hands, y’all. From my cold, dead hands.

To wrap it up, most of Europe is for Obamanation, and to me, that says it all. Oh, wait. Should at least include one quote:

“We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election.”

… Ahmed Yousef, senior Hamas leader, as quoted on ABC radio.

Sincerely,

A gun-totin’, Palin lovin’, charter member of the vast right-wing conspiracy :D

You are not alone, sister. You are not alone.

It’s so frightening that people will believe whatever they hear simply because it’s easier to do so….than to think on their own.

I won’t go into my mile-long list of arguments that only peg me as intolerant. I guess it’s fair to say that I do my best to line up my Biblical moral standards to and for whom I choose to vote.

I heard an argument the other day that stopped me cold. Don’t wanna take it out of context but the statement was: “Well, you know the average uneducated American votes Democratic because they look out for the poor guy…”

I wanted to shout WAIT! Let’s recap. “…the average uneducated American votes Democratic…?” What’s that telling me? Kinda bad argument, don’t ya think?

    Anyway, thanks for the rant.

I love this rant, Kelly. The various names you gave the “O-boy” were hysterical.

But seriously, it’s very scary right now. I usually try to stay out of political debates because I’m just that way, but your post hit the nail right on the head. The more I hear about OBama, the more I cringe.

I just pray every day for our country…..

  3. johudd Says:

Right on, Kelly! And did you see the recent clip of movie actress Ashley Judd when she said “A woman voting for John McCain is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders”? With that she lost a loyal fan–me. Love your blog!

  4. pgadams Says:

Got me to cheerin’, that’s for sure. Dad served in Army in WW2. I served in Army during Viet Nam. Both brother’s served in Navy. One Airborne son in Army Ranger school right now. And we talked about my gun views face to face in MN. Yep, got me to cheerin’, that’s for sure.

My husband makes window stickers for our cars. (and we’ve gotten a few flat tires and most recently a smashed tail light for them) Two of them read God & Gun Clingers. One says God, Guns, and Country.

Love this rant. My daddy served in the army during Korea and my hubby served in the Navy (no war going on at that time, but he did try to re-enlist for Iraqi Freedom).

Obama scares me in a way that no other candidate did. Praying for our country. Like my youngest son’s t-shirt reads: There’s something about God and country.

  6. Paulette L. Harris Says:

Oh Wow, you did hit the nail my friend. I am accused daily of not being fair and that I am prejudice in my thinking and…how could I vote for someone who is older than dirt. I am dumbfounded because I was raised in a purple heart family where several have them because they love our country.

I think we should bring back the draft for everyone, let’s see….maybe 48 and younger! :) Maybe that would change obee’s mind if he had a taste of what it really means to love your country.

I am shocked at the number of illegals in this country. Colorado is full of them who have overtaken the beautiful resort towns because of building. more high tower hotels. One lady interviewed the other day said that she is now the minority of a town that she grew up in. I grew up here too. It is scary when I see the changes in this beautiful state that has become so liberal, I can’t speak my mind without getting into trouble. By the way Kelly, did you hear yesterday that Mr. CA. Governor Arnold has requested a HUGE amount of money to save CA?

It is interesting that you should write this today. My husband and I were praying hard for our country’s leadership and I actually cried. Things have changed so much, just like George Orwell’s 1984 which I read in HS and then required to do so again in college. I don’t cry easily but this has been very sad. I am committed in my writing to try to challenge others to read for themselves and decide. I am concerned that our people have become very soft and lazy. It is much easier to turn on the news and listen to a Pastor’s opinion then going to the Bible for ourselves. God did create intelligence didn’t He…or am I sick and confused? Does the pastor always make the final final decisions?

There, thanks for letting me rave on this site too.

Keep up the good blogging. I enjoy coming here.

Hugs in Jesus and blessings to all.

Wow! I don’t know where to begin.

I won’t even attempt to discredit the many inaccuracies in your rant nor will I attempt to defend it by smearing McCain in a similar way, although it would be just as easy and a lot of fun.

I’ll go in a different direction on this. As a literary agent with such strong political views, do your views ever impact your client or editorial relationships?

  8. Kelly Says:

    Hey Patricia W.,

You’re no fun. Attack away. This is America. McCain ain’t perfect. In fact, he wasn’t my pick. I wanted Fred Thompson. McCain’s too liberal for me. Now, Sarah Palin IS me. She’s going to be our first woman president. How about this for a slogan: “A firearm in every handbag!” Better yet, “A firearm in every 4 Gals Designs custom-made handbag!”

In my last newsletter when I announced my blog, I mentioned I wanted both those who agree and disagree to comment. I also said this is my blog, my view, my rant. I’ve always been up-front with who I am, and I don’t care who knows it. No PC stuff. Take me or leave me, but I’m steadfast.

Lastly, I said my views in no way roll into my literary world. Do ya think alll my friends are Republicans? Nah. I’d fight just as hard for a rabid leftist as an uptight conservative. God loves everyone … even Obama.

  9. Kelly Says:

    “Anyway, thanks for the rant.”

    My pleasure!

    Sheri Boeyink Says:

“I just pray every day for our country…..”

YES! We need to pray. Catastrophe will strike if Obama wins. We haveta win this war, and go after the rest of the bullies.

I should mention my 80% correct “intuition” says McCain takes it. No doubt about it in my mind.

    K.

  11. Pammer Says:

Love the Gun in every 4Gals Design Custom made handbag! Woo!

I forgot to mention that my hubby also made a sign for his motorcycle that said Nobama. Some Democrat stopped behind him and then sped around him shouting profanities at him as they sped off. Another guy sped around him, laying on his horn flipping my husband off. And then one guy even tried to run him off the road (my husband was shocked by the sudden realization that dawned. If he’d been killed from the guy trying to run him off the road, he would have gotten away with it, another McCain voter smeared on the road.) Then he stopped somewhere to get a soda, in there less than three minutes and when he came out someone had ripped the sign off his bike. (This is all in one night on a twenty-five minute trip home from work.)

I don’t know about you, but when I see an Obama supporter, I may roll my eyes and pray for them, but I don’t try to KILL them.

So where is our freedom of speech? Do we only have freedom of speech when we say what they want to hear? Do we only have the freedom of religion as long as it isn’t Christianity? Do we only have the right to choose (abortion or not) if we choose to kill babies? And since my family’s blood was shed for this country (including all the way back to the civil war) do I not have the right to support which candidate I want?

Every red-(white and blue) blooded American needs to get out and VOTE! This is not only our right it’s our duty as Christians.

Hmmm, guess I had a bit of a rant as well.

  12. tslusher Says:

Lets not forget however God is in absolute control…no matter who gets elected He will make it work to HIS advantage. Maybe God wants the liberals to win to hasten the end ( it wouldn’t take long). I’m like the apostle Paul. I want to go and yet I want to stay. I want to see Jesus face to face but I want to play my part in helping people find Him in this life as well. Sigh.
P.S. I am so sick of watching the stock market dive every day I could scream! So I have to keep telling myself the above and than fake it till I make it!

  13. Tracy R Says:

Rant on, Kelly! And Paulette and Pammer, too! The fact that so many people are being deceived - Christians even - who are not seeing the evil that Obama represents is frightening and heartbreaking. Don’t these people have a clue???

I just received an email this morning with a link to an ABC interview of Obama. He talks about “my muslim faith.” Wake up people. I cannot believe that anyone in this country is even CONSIDERING voting for someone who has even a HINT of a connection to Islam, and all the hatred it represents towards this country, and towards Christians worldwide. Are we truly THAT STUPID???

Here’s the link if anyone wants to watch it:

“Maybe God wants the liberals to win to hasten the end ( it wouldn’t take long). I’m like the apostle Paul. I want to go and yet I want to stay.”

Well, hmm. IMO, God doesn’t want or not want a liberal to win. He gives us the rope, it’s our choice if we hang ourselves.

I’m not ready to go, as all my clients aren’t pubbed yet. I’m like a Peter. I’d be in the garden, loppin’ off ears! Don’t give up, FIGHT!

As to the stock market, everything will bounce back. Fortunately, I liquidated most of my stocks when we had a small dip, thus cutting my losses. That intuition comes in handy…

Apparently, some are. They think if we change the type of person (young, black–and no, I’m not a racist) we’ll get something different than business as usual. That will be true, but in this case, the change weakens our country.

  17. PatriciaW Says:

Thanks for responding, Kelly. I’m back. Call me a wuss but I’m smart enough to know I have to pick my battles, which includes picking my battlegrounds. And clearly this is not the place for an open, honest discourse. Too much gun-totin’ going on over here. (And I’m not necessarily opposed to gun ownership. It’s just when you start waving them in my direction…)

In fact, the thing that frightens me is exactly some of the comments I’m reading here. About how “evil” Obama is. About wanting to “kill” people.

See, as an African-American (and I know y’all are going to hate that I’m bringing this up) but that’s just the kind of language that led to a lot of the violence of the civil rights error. I’m sure a lot of people who make comments back then didn’t really mean anything by it, didn’t mean for anyone to actually do, just were being vocal and passionate about what they believed so strongly in, no matter how closed-minded or sad their beliefs may have been, but people did do things based on the hateful statements of others. That’s why although we have free speech, I think there’s also a responsibility that we have along with that free speech.

Just makes me nervous is all I’m saying.

  18. PatriciaW Says:

    Ooops, fast fingers.

    I meant “era”, not “error”.

And if there are others, know that I’m ducking while I type. :)

  19. Paulette L. Harris Says:

Patricia, no one is after you and I am not throwing things at you to make you duck. God made all of us and as a Caucasian, person, I have had my share of negative abuse from other races and so has my beautiful blond long haired daughter. I am not a raciest, but doggone it. we all have issues and we are all made in the image of God. It is what we choose to do with that image that makes us bigger than our race issues. We have to move forward, stop looking backward. If we are Christians, we better go to God and use our gifts in Jesus and our intelligence and get to checking the facts around us.
I am really tired of every race having a “chip” on their shoulder and saying “Wellll you just don’t understand.” I want to scream right now.

One: I am for gun control…there are many people who died for this freedom to carry a gun and protect ourselves. Guns have been an issue since they were invented and will always be dangerous in the wrong hands. And..the wrong hands will always get them without banning them.

Two: I want a good debate about what Obama’ relations to Ayers and Acorn are all about. So, far what I have looked at (FACTS) have me very concerned, especially Mrs. Obama’s comment, “For the first time, I am proud of my country.” What happened when she got to get her college education and my daughter had a hard time in CA to be able to get into college? Why??? Because she is white and couldn’t fit the slot open at the time. I am not bitter, the only thing that bothers me is that most of us deal with it and praise the Lord and keep going. I am really getting tired of the “poor me”. Attitude in this country, doesn’t matter what the race is. This attitude is prevalent across the land.
What about Obama’s recent slip of being Muslim?
Go check the facts on his first job under Ayers and Acorn.

You see friends, these comments were not made up by me or some mean person. They came out of truly yours…mouths! You can actually hear them yourself. I would love to see someone like Colin Powell run. He is what he says he is.

Three: I am tired of the war junk. Enough people just plain don’t understand the military and what they do. Being retired military and from a military family, I do have some facts. Thousands have shed blood to keep us free. If people don’t like the U.S. and our freedoms and military to protect that then, they need to go back where they came from.
My husband was one of those spit upon as he returned from Viet Nam. He is one who is now suffering from an incurable lung disease from inhaling agent orange for all of you U.S. citizens. By the way, it was the citizens who did the spitting. Oh, did I mention that Carter gave all the runaways to Canada freedom to come back home? They got to go to Canada and get their college degrees while some were pulled out of college. Do I sound angry? You bet I am, but it is righteous indignation that we truly are sheep, just like Jesus says.
We have a country full of poor me ungrateful people who want change because they can’t get what they want when they want.
Do you all realize how long (years) it took to get this great land made into a united country. The revolutionary war was no picnic won overnight. I guarantee you. Maybe be we need to rethink how and what we teach in history to our children. Obviously, younger people are not familiar with U.S. History. There we go…George Orwell again.

Oh my, I could go on and on. For all of our bragging about education, I am amazed at how uneducated our people are. They can’t even read, write, or spell. So, poor us how in the world can we expect to be able to make rational decisions? We aren’t responsible for that; it is someone else’s fault to be sure. I can’t help it if I can’t read to study the facts, I am pmsing, I am illiterate, I am spastic, I was born disconnected or whatever you can come up with.
Has anyone ever heard of Helen Keller? I don’t buy into excuses for poor judgment and mistakes when you have history to show you what not to do.

Has anyone read the scripture about united we stand, divided we fall? Wake up America. We better get a clue on how to be united with each other or we will lose this country. Oh to add to that scary scene, I was raised Catholic. Tell me something about division I don’t already know or have experienced. Protestants run from me when they find that part of me out. Doesn’t matter if I have protestant in me too. If Christians can’t get along, how in the world do you think others view us? Who would want to join up? Well, maybe a cult would…but we won’t go into where I was raised at the moment. :)

There is a cool movie with Kris Kristofferson and Jane Fonda called “Rollover” get it and take a good look at how fragile we are right now.
Gosh! I am starting to sound like Ann Coulter! And…I actually was going to accuse poor Kelly of that!

You all rock in my opinion and I love you all.
Ahh…thank you Kelly, I feel so much better now.

Blessings, this fine Oct. day in Jesus 2008!
    Paulette L. Harris

  20. Kelly Says:

Hey Patricia W., glad you’re back. I don’t think you’re a wuss, and it’s good you pick your battles, and your battlegrounds.

Sorry if I frighten you, but anyone who truly thinks I wanna kill someone doesn’t know me. It’s sarcastic wit, and not to be taken seriously. I only advocate shooting people in self defense. I’m not pointing a gun at you literally or figurtively.

Is Obama evil? I can’t see into his heart, but I know he has friends who are definately evil. I guess I feel that’s guilt by association. He has ties to terrorists. I don’t want someone like that in charge of my country.

Bringing up your ethnic background isn’t relevant, and I don’t hate you for bringing it up. But it leads me to wonder if you’re so fond of Obama because he’s black, and we’ve yet to have a black president. I’m not against blacks. I love Alan Keyes. I’d vote for him for president.

Bringing up civil rights is like beating a dead horse. My daughters from my first marriage had a terrible mother. Their lives got all screwed up. But when they reached their twenties, I had to say, “Look, I’ve apologized, I’ve repented, and now I’m doing the best I can. You can’t keep blaming me for all the mistakes you’re making now. You’re wise enough to make your own decisions, whether good or bad. Take responsibility for who you are and what you do, and stop saying ‘I did this or that becuase of the way you failed me.’”

Yeah, blacks had it rough. Yeah, they got discriminated against. Yeah, it was all unfair. Don’t ya think it’s time you got over it and moved on?

From what I’m readin’ above, it’s us Republicans who’re gettin’ hurt by exercising our right of free speech. If ya wanna talk about people doing things based on the hateful statements of others, listen to a Reverend Wright sermon.

I don’t hate Obama. But I look at piles of information on the candidates, not just believing what I hear from the obviously liberal media. I can back up my statements with facts. I know Obama’s voting record, and all that he didn’t accomplish in his short stint as a senator He can’t hide that from us. He’s a polarizing figure. He CANNOT reach across the aisle and work with Republicans to fix things. A “net decrease in taxes” isn’t a tax cut. I wanna keep my measly $800.

Obama is the most liberal candidate to get this close to the presidency. I’m so far to the right, I’m almost back to the left. I don’t believe in abortion, I don’t believe in helping illegal aliens, and I don’t believe in favortism because of the color of a person’s skin.

I’m nervous; I’m scared. I want someone in the White House with real leadership and experience. Obama might be the nicest, most decent guy on the planet, but he still is NOT qualified to lead our nation, especially with all the problems we’re having now.

We need a leader who isn’t afraid to defend us from North Korea or Iran. We need someone who’ll have our troops go and stay where they’re needed to keep us safe. We need a man who’s been in a trench, and knows how to get out, and when to get out. We can’t afford to lose the war in the Middle East. We need to cut government programs and let people stand on their own two feet, not stand in line for a handout.

    We need John McCain.

In closing, I have the utmost respect for you. You are the only one with enough guts to read my blog and stick up for what you believe in. Patricia W., I salute you.

    K.

  21. Kelly Says:

    Dear Paulette,

I read your post after I wrote mine to Patricia. One, I want to thank your husband for his service. I truly appreciate it.

I’m Pentecostal, but go to a non-denom. church. I’ve felt the same religious bias you have. There’s no doubt Catholics are Christians. All the religious trappings we get involved in don’t mean squat. They aren’t salvation issues. If you believe Jesus is the son of God, died for your sins, and came back to life, you’re goin’ to heaven. The rest is manmade hogwash. Well, some of it is.

As to Ann Coulter, I’ll take that as a compliment. After Sarah Palin, she’s my hero. I just wish she didn’t have a higher IQ than me :)

  23. PatriciaW Says:

The fact that I would NEVER vote for Alan Keyes for anything should put aside all notions that I’m for Obama because he’s Black. Didn’t support Rev. Al Sharpton’s candidacy either.

I’m for Obama because I believe he’s the best candidate. Period. His race is like a cherry on the top of a gooey, frosted cupcake. No chip here, Paulette and Kelly, but I brought my race up because it is relevant. It affects my worldview. I’ve never had the privilege of a worldview not influenced by race. That’s what we refer to as a “sense of entitlement” that African-Americans will never have in this country.

Let’s just be honest. Obama’s the Dem candidate and there is still something more than 25% of polled Dems who say they don’t want to vote for a Black man. I’m tired of people acting like race doesn’t matter in America because it does. If you tell me you don’t see race, I say, you’re not telling the truth. Because I see it every time I look in the mirror.

Why wouldn’t you see it, just as you see the color of the clothes I’m wearing? To deny it is to deny a part of who I am. Now if what you mean to say is that you don’t allow a person’s race to color your thoughts about that person, then I’m cool with that. I trust many that that truly is the case. I know however that it isn’t the case for everyone, and that many who say it isn’t really haven’t gotten in touch with their deepest feelings. Because their actions say otherwise. Maybe not every moment of every day but when the rubber meets the road…

Not accusing anyone here because I don’t know you to say. I would say, however, as I already did, that some of the rhetoric not only here but in general is scary. Supporters of McCain yelling out “Kill him!” at a rally, and folks think it’s either funny or something that can be ignored? And you may feel the tone of your initial comments don’t have racial undertones, because that’ wasn’t your intent but, I only asked you to consider them in historical context from my vantage point.

One: I don’t think guns is a partisan issue. Nor do I think it’s even a middling concern in this election.

Two: Let’s talk about McCain’s relationship with former lobbyists who are integral part of his campaign, the whole Charles Keating fiasco, and the truth about his involvement with Indian gaming. You may not like this anymore than you liked Michelle Obama’s comment about country but I competely understood what she meant. I also completely understand why you don’t get what she meant. That’s the legacy of race in America.

Three: I agree that most people in America don’t understand what the military does for us, and undervalues the price that those who serve and their families pay for that service. As I said on another blog, I have been blessed not to be directly impacted by this war yet I appreciate every member of the US Armed Forces. I’m not unfamiliar totally. My dad proudly served in the Navy in WWII and Korea. He didn’t talk much about it but I remember him ducking or jumping whenever he heard very loud noises. Heard a few stories about his time on an aircraft carrier. Yet he was proud of his service, and taught us to be.

Dad was 50 years older than me and gone by the time I was old enough to really think about his service and ask the questions I have now. I wish I had a chance to ask those questions. By the way, he was also an immigrant, one who came legally and was very proud of being a naturalized citizen of the United States who fought for his country.

Four: FACT, as you say. McCain’s voting record is not all that he is making it out to be. Yes, he voted against tax increases. In those same bills were often tax cuts for the middle class. Glass half empty or half full? It’s all about how you wish to view the situation and propagandize it.

For me, Obama’s the right man. McCain is not.

Thanks for letting me add a different voice to the discourse.

  25. Kelly Says:

    Hi Patricia,

We agree on one thing: Al Sharpton!

I take offense that you just called me a liar. I am the most honest person I know, and I’m not boasting. Puttin’ myself out here like this could push people away, yet I’m willing to do that. I am me, and this ‘me’ will never change. Love me or don’t love me, but I’m telling the truth as I see it.

You said, “I’m tired of people acting like race doesn’t matter in America because it does. If you tell me you don’t see race, I say, you’re not telling the truth. Because I see it every time I look in the mirror.”

Just because you see race as an issue every time you look in the mirror doesn’t mean I do. I don’t care if you’re purple. I’m quite in touch with my deepest feelings. Had enough therapy to be a therapist. Bill Cosby is one of my heroes. My cousin is black. If you asked me to describe him, I wouldn’t mention it, or what color of clothes he’s wearing.

I don’t believe blacks have any entitlements any more than whites should. If, as you put it, “I’ve never had the privilege of a worldview not influenced by race. That’s what we refer to as a “sense of entitlement” that African-Americans will never have in this country.” So, why stay here then? Go live in Africa. Stop complaining about what you’re robbed of because of your skin color and go somewhere where you’ll get the respect you feel you deserve. Sheesh! I’m sure you’re aware that many black people sold other black people into slavery, yet Thomas Jefferson always takes the heat. White people aren’t all bad, and neither are black people.

I’ve encountered and fought reverse discrimination, where I was told I couldn’t do something because I was white. I’m also a woman, and aggressive. I’m discriminated against. I’m a junior agent. I don’t get the respect other agents get at times. I don’t whine about what I can’t get in “this country,” I get in there and take it.

This isn’t a fun, gooey cupcake-kinda situation. We have serious problems. So, you wouldn’t care if Obama was white. You’d still vote for him. I wouldn’t care if he were white either. He doesn’t have the credentials to earn this position. If I went to Harvard and filled out an application to be the dean, and had a few years experience, and really had nothing to show for that few years, they’d laugh me off the campus.

How can you deny the character of John McCain? He’s put this country before his own safety, and did it at great pains. That’s a leader. He’s fought Republicans and worked with Democrats. He’s made some Republicans mad. Yet go to his core. He can’t use a computer, or salute a superior officer due to the torture inflicted upon him because of his race. Because he wouldn’t buy into the propaganda the Vietnamese wanted to use him for, because he couldn’t leave before men who’d been imprisoned before him.

My comments have nothing to do with the civil rights movement. I live in the present, not the past. I’m moving forward, and I don’t care what gets in my way. I go through it, or find a way to get around it. Lookin’ back only makes my neck hurt.

About radicals: Obama is for abortion, I’m not, yet I’m not for bombing abortion clinics either. There are always radicals, what cracks me up is some of them are Obama’s friends, but that doesn’t bother you.

On the issues important to me: the safety of my country, abortion, higher taxes, Obama falls short on every account. He doesn’t have the experience necessary to tackle what’s facing us. He talks a good game, but that ain’t gonna cut it. His ideas, other than his statements that we need change, will sink us deeper, raise my taxes, and weaken our military position in the world.

You have the right to voice your opinion here at any time. We are all Americans, and all have the right to our opinion. On my blog, the color of your skin doesn’t preclude you.

I went home with a headache yesterday so I won’t go into great detail anymore.

I do want to correct one thing though. I didn’t call you a liar. I said you aren’t telling the truth if you tell me “you don’t see color”. You’re telling what you perceive to be truth but I believe you just haven’t reached the deepest level of truth as yet. As you said, I’m entitled to my opinion.

I really do see a difference. Lying, to me, is when a person knowingly says something that is wrong with intent to deceive. I don’t think you or anyone did that here. Neither have I.

I also didn’t say I see race “as an issue”. I simply said “I see it”. So do you. That’s why I hate when people say, “I don’t see race.” They do but they believe that it makes them sound magnanimous.

I much prefer someone to say, “Yeah, I see that you’re Black because I’m far from blind. That might mean we don’t agree on everything but it’s cool.” Be honest and upfront. It’s better for all of us.

And ultimately, you have been. I can appreciate that. If I thought the color of my skin precluded me, I never would have posted. In fact, part of me likes the opportunity to get slammed and come back at you. We can talk about what that says about me at some later date. :)

John McCain’s service is undeniable. Don’t agree that makes him a leader. Sorry. Enduring the heinous indignities that he had to go through was way above admirable and he will be blessed for it. But does it give him leadership qualities? I think not.

Lastly, why would or should I, American born and raised, go live in Africa anymore than you? See, that’s the kind of thinking that riled up a lot of folks for decades and continues to fester in the gut of America. I assume we both want this nation to continue to be the best nation in the world. We have differences of opinion about how to go about that. But I don’t automatically tell you that you should go live in some other country, Australia or Finland perhaps, because you express opinions different than mine. Sheesh!

  27. Paulette L. Harris Says:

Whew! Thanks Kelly you relieved my feelings about being “too tough” on my last note. I feel much better about it.

Patricia, I agree that you are a brave soul to continue to write your opinions. Hats off to you for making this lively.

However, you’ve got to be kidding. As this campaign continues, you are going to be as concerned as I am. This is no refreshing cupcake situation with a cherry on top for good measure. We are in a real out and out war here in the United States and I agree with Kelly. This man is no where near being qualified…unless you believe that his distribution of Acorn funds and his partner, (Ayers), do that for him which have made him qualified. You can’t compare him to McCain and his experience. So what if he was involved in what you say, it doesn’t compare to an unrepentant terrorist or a pastor that teaches hate. Don’t think for a minute that I don’t understand the history behind this. I have gone to several other churches including this type. This is pure hate and evil like I have never seen. Yes, there are haters in every country and it feels uncomfortable. But why incite it? The remarks on tape are not “poor us, you don’t understand our past and this is acceptable because of that.” No, my friend, when this comes out to the entire world, then this pastor needs to reconsider what Love is. I will give that the pastor is a powerful speaker, like O but he is not speaking love and unity. Pastor doesn’t have to be defended because we don’t understand what he said and where he is coming from. I am sick and tired of this attitude. He said what he said and it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth as a loving Christian.

Go back and study communism, or actually humanism and socialism. they all tie in together, just subtle changes from time to time. It is okay to make a lot of money in this country that is part of our freedom.
We are in a dangerous situation militarily right now and our enemies are greedy to see us fall. However, I don’t believe in using fear tactics to get elected. We have been here before economically six times. We will make it with the right leadership. We cannot afford to give our enemy our secrets as to how or when we will win this war. Remember, McCain has much military training in military matters, not just being a POW. I believe that the war on terrorism is top priority at the moment. Clinton had a chance at Osama ten years ago and let him go. If we had taken care of the situation. then there would not have been 9/11.

Won’t someone out there give President Bush some credit? We haven’t been hit since and he has had his hands full. He is actually doing a good job at a number of things and history will prove this out. He deserves our respect and prayers. He didn’t cause 9/11 and God didn’t punish us with several disasters, including hurricanes that cost our country big bucks?
I don’t believe God did these things. These are natural disasters, the same with melting ice and snow. Each generation forgets history. Jim is a weather man, he and his friends laugh at such nonsense, unless you are a liberal scientist who has to go along with the crowd to keep his job.
Ask the ice-truckers, they will tell you.

Don’t you think the enemy is rubbing his hands together in pure delight over all this? This is like apples and oranges. There is nothing to convince me that O is qualified. Running around with Bill Ayers who is training him. Poor O is truly a “pawn” in this evil man’s hands. Don’t tell me that there isn’t an agenda here.
Let’s give you a couple of O’s quotes. “He lives in my neighborhood.”
“His children go to the same school.”
Yes, he and O do live in the same neighborhood, in fact they had coffee together in the living room! Yes…his children went to the same school, only the kids are all grown up while O’s are still small so that seems pretty silly to me. I may be mistaken about this but didn’t Ayers actually do a first fund raiser for/with O??

I understand that you can’t put yourself into another persons shoes, but for heavens sake, get over it. I tried to tell you all of the discrimination my family has gone through because I am white during a time of guilt put upon us for being born that way. I’ve had several attacks (physical) upon me while in the military. (By blacks to be blunt) And my daughter couldn’t get the college slot she wanted because of affirmative action and….I was criticized on a couple of occasions in a private school as a teacher because I didn’t give the grade that the student’s parent wanted to their child. I was falsely accused and it hurt a lot for me to be an honest person.
I had to defend myself to my boss, the principle. She actually stood outside the classroom windows to “listen” in. I didn’t know it, but guess what, I was vindicated and I am proud to say that I kept going and pressing into Jesus because I knew He was listening and saw everything.
And…before I forget, I have a black cousin who is becoming an officer in the U.S. military. Proud of him, you bet. And you know what? When I look in the mirror, I see a King’s Kid. Someone who was not worthy until Jesus took a hit on the cross for me.

We all have our issues my friend and we should get over them in Jesus. The only way we can change the world around us is to be full of the Holy Spirit and willing to let it overflow out of our lives touching others with His Holy Love. I believe that is another reason that Jesus died for all of us.

I am praying for you to really dig deep here and look at the entire scene through Jesus eyes. If that is hard, and sometimes it is, then ask Him to help you. He honors a sincere heart and I believe you have one.

I have no problems with skin color. My husband’s best friend was black, purple, green, doesn’t matter and she introduced us. I have a picture with me holding hands in front of the Liberty Bell in Washington D.C. We went up on a business trip together and she is still our best friend. She and I have discussed these things at great length. She has had her share of discrimination but she presses into Jesus and moves forward in Him.

I guess you all can accuse me of being a “little older” and oh no…old fashioned! I don’t think that way, I think it is becoming a little wiser and learning to “listen” to Jesus with spiritual ears. Oh boy! That is scary, I am sounding like my precious French/American Indian grandmother today.

If you were all here with me at my computer, I would stop and give you a big hug. You are so loved by your savior and brothers and sisters in Christ. :)

Abortion isn’t even in my vocabulary! But… that doesn’t mean I don’t love and forgive one who has had one.

Kelly, you are too as smart as Ann and by the way have all of you gone to Sara’s Face book as a friend? If not, let me know and we’ll get you there. I believe she is very qualified and refreshing as a woman and as a Vice-President. Have you seen her latest gun-totin picture on the magazine? I think it was Newsweek. I saw it on TV this morning.

Pardon me, I have to check my priority list….oh yeah, I have to clean Jim’s gun this morning!

    P.H.

  28. Kelly Says:

    Hi Patricia,

You got guts, gal. I like that. You remind me of me.

First, I gotta clear up something I forgot to address yesterday. You brought up Keating. Old news. You didn’t mention McCain was absolved of any wrongdoing (by a democrat), and it was said (by a democrat) he never should’ve even been named, as he had nothing to do with that Democrat scandal.

And, yes, McCain was and is a leader. He wasn’t a Private when he was in the military. He led men. When imprisoned, he led by example. He kept the men’s hopes us. He didn’t whine and complain about his situation. And as a leader, he stayed longer than he had to. He “went down with the ship.”

I’m sorry, but I don’t make a distinction between, “You aren’t telling the truth,” and “You’re a liar.” Same statement, except one is negation use. It’s like POV. You can’t know what I’m thinking, seeing, what’s in my heart, or what my perception of anything is. You see color; I DON’T. If I let my olive skin get a rippin’ tan, would we be the same then?

If you don’t wanna be seen as a color, stop separating yourself. I hate it when I hear, “the first black this or that.” How about Black History Month? I’d never get away with trying to institute a White History Month, although it’d be great to profile a democrat who was a former KKK member. How about the “N” word? Blacks use it, but a white person can’t. You keep reminding us you’re different. You deserve everything I do–what you earn. Ya don’t see me complaining that there ain’t enough white dudes in the NBA.

As for telling you to go away if you don’t like it here, that has nothing to do with color. As many black people speak of their roots, I said go to Africa. If I complain about the unfairness of America, tell me to go back to Italy. You live in the best country in the world, yet you think you deserve more consideration than I do because of prior bad acts. I’d tell anyone who thinks they’re getting’ a raw deal here to go where they’ll get better treatment. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin.

Back to Obama. What about ACORN? Caught red-handed pressuring people to register to vote numerous times so they can vote for Obama numerous times. And the terrorists in the Middle East want Obama in office. Ya think that’s because he’s gonna lead us to peace? There is no peace when half of the equation involves terrorists who hate America and Israel, and wanna wipe us off the face of the earth. They want him because he’s weaker than McCain.

Obama’s never led anyone or anything. I’m wondering why you think he’s qualified. Name one bill he personally drafted in the senate that passed. Name one bill he personally drafted that didn’t pass. Name one bill he personally drafted. There isn’t one.

Finally, your gooey frosting is just as much vanilla as chocolate. Since Obama is half-white, I can claim the same amount of him you can. White or black, I stand by the statement that he doesn’t have the experience required to lead. Sarah Palin is more qualified than Obama is.

    K.

  29. PatriciaW Says:

“You think you deserve more consideration than I do because of prior bad acts.”

No, I don’t. I hope for equal consideration, which has not been given to Blacks historically but America has gotten better. And I hope we continue to do so.

“Obama’s never led anyone or anything.” I guess being a US Senator is not being a leader. Neither is being an Illinois State Senator or President of the Harvard Law Review. Forget being a community activist, which in my book makes him more of a leader in some ways that a bunch of folks in suits who really don’t do the work but spend a lot of time spouting off about what should be done but, obviously folks on the other side of the fence find this to be a point of derision.

As for Sen. Obama’s legislative record, here’s a Washington Post article about the “strongest ethics reform bill ever”. And the details of his legislative record are here.

Funny, I think you’re gutsy too, and although I’m tempted to be insulted by a few things that you’ve thrown at me, I’m not. I hope you aren’t either. We shared our opinions. We’re on opposite sides of the fence.

May the best man win in November.

  30. PatriciaW Says:

Actually, here’s a link that summarizes the Obama legislative record very nicely, using the facts from the Obama website. It’s easier to read and get to the gist than wading thru all the responses to misinformation about his record.

    OK. I’m done.

    Thanks, Kelly.

  31. Kelly Says:

    Patricia,

Your link didn’t come thru. Ca ya send it again?

    K.

  32. Paulette L. Harris Says:

I can’t resist the temptation to comment again. Here is a short one.

Why not check out facts that aren’t on the McCain or Obama websites?
Then you don’t have to wade through anything but the truth.

I wouldn’t read either, I checked them out independently of their websites, saves a lot of time later when these arguments start to fly.

Kelly, you are correct. Anyone who makes it though a Military College is well equipped for leadership and knows the world politics. John McCain’s record speaks for itself. He was in leadership positions long before he was a POW. By the way, older means more experience at making decisions. The Bible tells us about older folks. Some have said today that McCain looks older and worn out. Well, I think he looks great for having every bone broken in his body. I think he is still handsome.

What does America want, a strong young stunning Charasmatic leader with no experience? Hm sounds like something I read about somewhere??? Good looks isn’t everything, truth is. I am getting tired of O and his cronies crying foul every time something questionable is brought up or if it is then they say well what about this or that instead of pressing in and answering questions.
I give them credit, they are good at skirting issues when it comes to their hero’s integrity. Just answer the questions instead of putting the responsibility on someone else.

I have trouble voting with those who kill helpless children, I believe some call it infanticide. Now that piece of legislation is a fact. Also dear ones, a lie is a lie. If you accuse someone of not telling the truth, you are saying they are a liar. Let’s not play with words. Oops that is what liberals do.
Like Clinton…”It depends on what is, is.” See what I mean.

I would go back to Italy, but the problem is that I am a heinz 57 and would be leaving everything else I am behind. That is why I am proud to be an American! I love every root on me and that is why I am now a blond instead of a brunette. The roots love it and they all agree. Besides, I look much younger and everyone is fooled. Just joshin with ya’ll. :)

    Nuf! :)
    P

  33. Kelly Says:

Let’s look at Senator Obama’s record. Let’s look at the big changes he wants to make if elected, shall we?

TAXES. We all hate them. We all wanna pay less. As a person who owns three small businesses, Obama’s policies scare the pantyhose off me. How does taxing businesses who give people jobs, who then fund our economy, help us? People, we are a capitalist society. It isn’t a crime to make money. This is a free enterprise system. The more businesses grow, the more people we hire. Those people then have more money to put into our economy. Am I the only person who took economics in college. Doesn’t anyone remember the Boston Tea Party?

Let’s tax investors (me). Let’s tax business owners (me). Let’s raise payroll taxes (sigh). Some defender of the middle class. Obama voted to raise taxes on people who made only 42k a year. What? Is that the bar for bein’ filthy rich now? This vote was AFTER his promise to those who voted him into the senate that he’d cut their taxes. We’re supposed to believe him now? And what’s a “net tax gain”? I’ll tell ya what it ain’t. A tax cut.

HEALTHCARE. Yikes! Like I want government-controlled healthcare? I gotta think back, but didn’t Hillary try that when she was our quasi president? No thank you. I don’t want a single-payer system where as a small business owner I’ll be fined if I don’t offer insurance. I don’t care how much money my business has to make to put me in that category. I guess I’d haveta make sure to keep my profits low to avoid the Obamedical penalty. By the way, what is the amount of that fine, Senator Obama? You still haven’t told us.

EARMARKS. We all know what they are. Obama’s been a senator for what, three years? In that time, he’s asked for a billion, no that ain’t a typo, a billion dollars of pork barrel for his state. And now he says he’ll fight that kinda stuff? Hogwash!

FINANCIAL REGULATIONS. Ah, the housing market. Since I have a degree in finance, I feel qualified to discuss this, although you don’t need a degree to understand what happened. Old Fannie and Freddie are in serious trouble. Why? The democrats. They pushed for subprime loans that people couldn’t afford. Let’s help the poor! Let’s give ‘em loans so they can have the American dream! F & F backed bad mortgages.

John McCain warned those guys in 2005 they were gonna crash-and-burn if they followed this path. Did they listen? No. Did Senator Obama speak up? Nope. Nothing in his record shows he stepped up to say, “Stop!” He kept quiet until last September when he said the loans were a good idea. We all know Freddie and Fannie contributed to Obama’s campaign, more than any senator but one (another democrat) in their history. That isn’t a smear tactic, but a viable fact. I don’t need to lie when I have proof of the truth. (Not that I’d lie about it anyway. I already said my problem with Obama is that he doesn’t have enough experience to lead the country, not who contributes to his campaign.)

Obama says he champions financial regulation after the fact. Where was he when we needed him? Where was he BEFORE we got into this mess? He wasn’t with John McCain. To quote John McCain, “We can’t change the system with someone who’s never fought the system.”

IN CLOSING. Sorry, got the bit in my teeth and couldn’t rein myself in. People, study the FACTS, not what the liberal media shows you. Even Obama’s choice of a running mate, the plagiarist Joe Biden said Obama wasn’t qualified to be President of the United States. If ya don’t wanna believe me on that point, believe Joe Biden. We’re both correct.

MY MESSAGE TO JOHN McCAIN. You’ve proven how much you love America–how you’ve always put America first. You’re a soldier. A fighter. Take the gloves off and rumble! You have one more debate. One more chance to expose Obama’s relationship with Reverend Wright, with Ayers, (who we all know is more than just a guy in his neighborhood). Reveal Obama’s disastrous foreign policy plans. How he’ll damage the credibility of the USA by sitting down with terrorists (other than Ayers) without pre-conditions. Then, lay out your plan to get our economy back on track. Remind the people how you’ll continue to defend the greatest country in the world from tyranny, evil, and annihilation. I know you got the stuff, dude. Give it to ’em. For what it’s worth, ya got my vote…

    K.

  34. debso39 Says:

Thanks for the rant. I took my kids on a field trip to both the local campaign offices, and even my 11yo son befuddled the Obama-zombies with his pointed questions.

My 13yo son asked how in the world Obama could lower taxes while funding the kind of healthcare program he talks about. The woman just stuttered, “Well, I don’t pretend to be an economist.”

  35. svannatter Says:

    Kelly,
You are so right! Preach on sister! Amen!
I love Sarah Palin. Fred Thompson was my pick too and I wasn’t excited about McCain until Sarah. I’ll cling to my Bible, my God, and my country. And even my gun, since I shot a possum once. No Obamanation!
